Morning all!
Hope you’ve had a lovely week!
I’ve spent a good amount of this week falling more and more in love with the wonderful bees in the garden. We have seen tons already this year, and lots of different varieties too. It’s amazing what you see when you start to look more closely.
What have you seen in your garden or local park this week?
In this week’s newsletter, we are going a bit more literary! I will also be chatting about an amazing historical novel, and a fun fact about butterflies.
Let’s grab a cuppa and take 5 minutes to focus on the little things! ☕
It’s that finishing feeling
I turn the last page, and the story is complete. A feeling of peace fills my body, partnered with a sense of accomplishment from the completion of a story, seeing the arc from beginning to end.
I close the cover, and feel the weight of it, both literally and metaphorically. This book has accompanied me through a period of time, whether its hours, days or weeks, following me around like a loyal puppy, through endless bags, trips and to and from the bedside. And now, it’s ready to retake its place on the shelf.
It feels odd to suddenly be detached from the story. In fact, my mind is still thinking about the characters and plot normally for at least a few hours, every so often checking in again, slowly saying goodbye to the characters and the world, even though they’re always right there, ready for us to read them again.
However, as time passes and the feelings subside, something else begins to seep in. It’s quiet at first, building and building until its call must be answered and the cycle begins once again:
What shall I read next?

What I’ve been reading
The Square of Sevens by Laura Shepherd-Robinson
I absolutely adored this book, a brilliant historical sweeping novel you can really cosy into.
The story follows Red, a young girl who tells fortunes throughout Cornwall with her father. When her father passes away, she is taken into the care of a scholar, and begins to find a new life amongst the splendour of Bath. She still tells her fortunes within high society but a bigger question gnaws away at her – who was her mother? And why was her father always keeping them on the move?
This epic novel captures you in from the first sentence to the last, as we too become completely embroiled in Red’s story and her insatiable need to find out more about her family.
Perfect for fans of:
📚 Dickensian - style historical novels
📚 Compelling mysteries
📚 Books about fortune telling (and a hint of astrology)
And finally….a weird animal fact!
Did you know that butterflies taste and smell through their legs and feet?
So butterflies have no noses, meaning they navigate the tastes and smells of the world through their legs instead!
Something fun to think about the next time you see a butterfly!
Thank you for reading! I hope you enjoyed-let me know what you think, and what you’d like to see in future editions. If you know someone else who would like it, please share and let’s grow the newsletter!
Can’t wait to hear from you, and have a great day! ☀️
